No pressure, says Peter Banda
Tanzanian champions Simba SC’s Malawian winger Peter Banda says he is not losing his sleep over the prospects of facing his former club Nyasa Big Bullets.
The People’s Team host the Dar es Salaam-based outfit this Saturday in the preliminary round first leg of the CAF Champions League at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
However, in an interview on Tuesday, the wonder-kid admitted that he expects a tough encounter.
He said: “Pressure?. Not necessarily, but I expect a tough match
They [Bullets] are a good side and playing at home in front of their fans gives them an edge.
“But I believe we have prepared well for them.”
The Flames winger also said it will be amazing facing his former team.
“Obviously it will be emotional for me. Should I get the chance to play, I will try to give out my best just like any other player.
“I know that I could be the centre of focus, but that is expected in football.”
On whether Simba have asked him to help them with technical and tactical insights into Bullets, the 21-year-old said: “Not really. Most of the players I played with, the likes of Chiukepo Msowoya, Chimango Kayira and Miracle Gabeya have since left the team. So, it’s almost a completely different team.”
But football analyst Felix Ngamanya Sapao said Banda could still be under pressure given his situation.
“He will be up against his former team and definitely there will be an element of pressure as he will be out to impress,” he said.
Banda joined Simba from Bullets on a three-year deal at a local record transfer fee of $100 000 (then about K90 million) in 2021 after spending a season on loan at Tiraspol in the Moldovan top-flight league.
